The Diviner

The Diviner at once seemed longer than it actually was and way, way too short. A story of treachery, vengeance, magic, and survival, the book drew me in from the opening paragraph and kept my interest to the end.

What I enjoyed about The Diviner is the same type of thing that I enjoy about Guy Gavriel Kay's books. While they are very different authors they also have some of the same strengths. Ms. Rawn has a gift for making the characters leap off of the page, gives tantalizing hints of real world places even while the setting is entirely fictional (at least that is the way it appears to me), and the places are very vividly described.

The Diviner is my first foray into Melanie Rawn's books, but it will not be my last.
