Cat Star Chronicles - Rebel by Cheryl Brooks - Letter From the Author
Dear NOR Readers,
You may or may not have met me before, but I’m Cheryl Brooks, the author of The Cat Star Chronicles, and I’m currently celebrating the release of book ten of the series, Rebel.
I know what you’re thinking: “Start reading a series at book ten? Never!” Trust me, the series can be read and enjoyed out of order. However, if you need a little background to get you started, here goes:
My heroes all hail from the planet Zetith, which was destroyed through the instigation of Rutger Grekkor, a very rich, powerful, and extremely jealous man whose wife, Amelyana, took a Zetithian lover. If you’ve ever read any of my books, you can guess why he might’ve done that, especially after he killed Amelyana’s first lover and she went to Zetith to find another one! If you’re a potential reader, let’s just say my Zetithian guys are irresistible. I’ll let you discover the reasons for yourself. ;-)
Originally, there were only six survivors of this very thorough form of genocide who were captured toward the end of the war and sold into slavery. Books one through six tell each of their stories. Any other off-world survivors had been killed by Grekkor’s minions, the Nedwut bounty hunters. Therefore, when I was asked to write three more books, I had to find more Zetithians!
Enter Amelyana. Although she is ultimately to blame for the destruction of the cat-like Zetithian race, she is also their salvation. After commandeering one of her husband’s starships, she was able to rescue a hundred of Zetith’s children before a diverted asteroid struck and destroyed the planet. The children lived on that starship for twenty-five years until Grekkor’s death set them free.
Imagine if you will, a group of refugees who have been cooped up in a starship, flying endlessly through space, stopping only to take on supplies, often having to resort to dubious means to acquire them. Now, those same refugees are not only free, they have each inherited a share of Grekkor’s vast estate, effectively rendering these homeless orphans wealthy almost overnight.
Some were willing to settle on their newly designated homeworld of Terra Minor. Others longed to roam, while still others opted to use their inborn sexual prowess to multiply their inheritance exponentially.
Book seven, Virgin, is about Dax, who took Grekkor’s personal starship as his share of the wealth and now roams the galaxy taking passengers wherever they wish to go for no more than they can afford to pay. As the title suggests, he’s never put his sexual abilities to the test, and there’s a good reason for that. You see, Zetithians are scent-breeders. It takes the scent of feminine desire to arouse the males, and once mated, only their mate’s scent will have that effect. In book five, Fugitive, Manx could be affected simply by being downwind of an aroused female. Dax, on the other hand, has never met an available female who triggered that response. That is, until he meets Ava, a Terran/Aquerei crossbreed who is anxious to return to her old boyfriend on Rutara. Needless to say, she eventually chooses Dax, but not before they engage in a series of harrowing adventures.
Three other Zetithians, Tarq, Jerden, and Onca, are introduced in Virgin. These sexy Zetithian hunks have established a by-appointment-only brothel on the anything-goes planet of Rhylos, and are making money hand over fist. Book eight, Stud, is about Tarq, a handsome fellow who, hampered by a learning disability, has convinced himself that he is only good for one thing; siring more Zetithians. He has left the brothel to take his breeding program on the road, and though he has impregnated hundreds of women, he finally meets his mate in Lucy, a lonely and rather plain waitress who lives and works in a small village on Talus Five.
Jerden and Onca continue working in the brothel, but Jerden is nearly destroyed when their fluffer (a woman whose scent arouses the men so they can service non-compatible species) is killed by a deranged woman who wants her job. Wildcat is the story of how Jerden is healed by Sara Shield, a horse breeder on Terra Minor who has some healing to do of her own.
That left Onca with a tale to tell, but the original contract only called for three books. Onca, however, demanded his own story, and he wasn’t going to let me rest until I wrote it. So I wrote the first two chapters and a brief synopsis and sent it off to my editor, whom I was fairly certain would reject it, what with the paranormal genre supposedly being dead and all. ;-)
However, to quote my agent, my editor was “thrilled” to work with me on another Cat Star book. So here I am, promoting Rebel, the tenth and possibly final book of the series. Rebel is fast-paced, action-packed, and loaded with sweet romance and sizzling hot sex. Followers of the series will be reunited with a few old friends and will meet several new characters as well.
Here’s a brief synopsis of Rebel:
Having made a fortune selling his services in the Zetithian Palace brothel for the past ten years, Onca has finally decided to retire. A refugee of the destruction of the planet Zetith, he has no family, no surname, and no woman has ever touched his heart—until he rescues a homeless young Zetithian woman from a Herpatronian kidnapper.
Kimcasha Shrovenach has lived on the streets of Damenk since the age of ten when Nedwuts wiped out her entire family. She has had to steal in order to survive, which makes her reluctant to notify the police when three of her friends vanish. Her plan to use herself as bait to discover her friends’ fate goes awry when Onca intervenes.
Kim’s initial distrust evaporates when Onca offers her food and shelter as well as his help in locating her missing friends. The attraction between Kim and Onca is immediate and intense, but Onca considers himself to be too jaded and used for such an innocent young woman. Kim has never met a man she can love and soon realizes that Onca is the one she’s been waiting for.
Together with a gang comprised of cooks, prostitutes, and street urchins, Onca and Kim attempt to bring down the conspiracy behind a string of brothels filled with homeless orphans kidnapped from the streets of Damenk for use as sex slaves. Kim fully intends to spend the rest of her life loving Onca. But first, she must find her missing friends—and rescue him.
Whether you’re a new reader or dedicated Cat Star fan, I hope you will fall for this Rebel as much as I did. He’s a keeper!
He helped to find her kidnapped friends. Will he let her steal his heart?
Kimcasha has lived by her wits since she lost her family when she was eight years old. So when three of her friends vanish, she has no fear about using herself as kidnapper's bait, until a stranger foils her plot...
After ten years of selling his services in a brothel, Onca has decided to retire.
