A NIGHT OWL REVIEWS BOOK REVIEW | Reviewed by: Terri

They are siblings and they are exiled. RuGaard was the leader of the dragons until he was overthrown by a friend. His wife is being kept captive and will stay alive as long as he follows the rules of his exile. His brother, AuRon has a similar problem. Their sister Wistala use to be in charge of a female warrior cadre but she has joined her brothers in their exile.

From a distance, they see the unification and powerful realm that they established begin to fall apart. There seems to be more going on than they can see and the males want their females back with them. As chaos starts to emerge, each powerful dragon leaves on a quest on to find themselves on a path they never expected or wanted.

Can what was brought together be saved? And, if it can, will RuGaard, AuRon and Wistala live to see it?

This is the 6th and final book in the series The Age of Fire. It brings a closure to a tale that was started in the first book. Therefore, many things that happened in the previous 5 books are either finished in this one or made reference too. That being said, this book can still be read alone and enjoyed though the reader may miss some of the detail and backstory.

The characters are very well done. Dragons are the primary characters and their abilities and thought processes are expressed very well. They can’t do everything for themselves which is why they have others to do for them. They do have weaknesses and they also have some awesome strengths. These will come into play as the story evolves. Others also play a powerful role such as bats, hominids, trolls and dwarfs.

The world that this book exists in is also very well done. There are cultures with traditions, military units and different nations. There are terrains to transverse above and below ground. Nothing is left out as this world developed.

The situations that the characters find themselves in are logical which makes them believable. From being held captive for someone else’s behavior to wanting the best in life to just wanting to get away from it all, there is something for everyone in this book and who is reading this book. However, there is also some secret things going on which will determine the outcome or more than just the realm. It will determine if dragons will even survive!

Though I have not read the first 5 books in this series, I did enjoy this one. It took me a while to get into it and occasionally I found myself a bit lost in what was going on but overall, it was entertaining and very interesting. I would suggest reading the previous books if you want all the details straight and I would think to get the full effect of the story.

This story is broken up into three sections. This is good because each section has its own theme and the breaking points make good stop points. The first section has the three main characters doing their own thing, the middle has them getting back together and the last has the climatic end of the story. However, there is a small epilogue which gives a what happens a bit later. There is also a list of dragon characters and a small glossary to give you some help figuring out who is who and what some of the more dragony term are.

If you like fantasy, especially dragon fantasy, I recommend this book/series. It’s unique in how the story is done. The writing is engaging and will keep you involved.
